HERITAGE el Día de Muertos / Day of the Dead Ceremony with Kimiko Fujimoto & Gen Larocque Saturday, November 2 4-6:30 pm
What has passed is now the heritage from which we stand. On this night, gather to give praise to the ancestors of all beings and to our kinship with the earth. With gratitude and grace, we’ll build a bundle of prayers to send to your relations, loved ones, and the spirits who’ve long and recently transitioned. Whether or not you feel a connection to your own lineage, there is ancestral wisdom from all who have walked before us—wisdom from the earth and those who have passed—that supports us through life’s transitions. Through a collaborative ritual, we’ll honour death as a sacred rite of passage that isn’t just reserved for the physical world but spiritually as well. Glean from this vast well of generational wisdom and tradition: how might you walk with the ancestors of the earth, of spirit, and of wisdom? How might you need to grieve and heal? How might you wish to leave a legacy of your own? How might you need to understand death?
Join Kimiko and Gen to build a massive altar of candles, flowers, and offerings to commune and connect with your heritage and the heart of death with reverence. The ceremony will include sharing stories, food, herbal elixirs, embodied movement, and restful silence to integrate and hold space for the depth of whatever arises during this time. Collective ceremonial work powerfully supports the personal and the greater sphere, this can also resource those currently facing death or a dark night of the soul.
Offerings will be provided, however we encourage you to bring photos, sacred objects, and personal biodegradable offerings like food or flowers to place on the altar. You’ll be able to recollect your keepsakes at the end of the ceremony. Please also bring a journal, blanket or eye covering, and wear comfortable attire.
