秋分 Shūbun - Autumn Equinox Ritual - September 21, 2025
12:00 pm PST | 3:00 pm EDT (90 mins)
Meaning. Movement. Mythology. Magic
Shūbun is the Japanese translation of “Autumn Equinox.” Across cultures, this marks a sacred passage when day and night rest in balance between light and dark. Nature invites us inward to prepare for a new seasonal cycle. This year, the equinox opens into a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo—a powerful threshold for miraculous transformation.
Eclipses are moments when timelines shift, allowing us to rewrite our patterns and enter new paradigms. This earthly Virgo eclipse calls us to release the distortions of our past and renew our commitment to healthy embodiment and grounded presence.
In traditional herbal medicine, autumn belongs to the lungs and the immune system. As the air turns crisp, our bodies call for deeper breaths and a slower rhythm. Together, we’ll practice breath expansion, yin yoga, tai chi, and stillness to support the body’s transition as we release grief or stagnation and strengthen inner resilience.
秋分の日 (Shūbun no Hi) is a national holiday in Japan, where families honour ancestors, offer seasonal foods, and return to harmony with nature. Together through ritual, we’ll explore these traditions with a journey to the Japanese Maple 紅葉 (Momiji)—a tree of grace, endurance, and renewal. In poetry and myth, its fiery leaves embody impermanence and transformation. Maple’s essence helps us embrace change with serenity as we learn to let go like a falling leaf.

*Prepare your space as you feel to stretch, breathe, and slow down with a journal and pen. Recommended to craft an altar with symbols of your ancestors or nature’s own falling leaves, a candle, food offerings, blessing herbs, and sacred objects of your personal choice and creativity. I will prepare a collective altar for the group, so you can also show up simply as you are. A recording will be provided if you can’t attend live.
